Account of a bunch of crazy posh people who thought it would be a grand idea to fly over Mount Everest in the early 1930s with relatively basic equipment. It was there I suppose! Pretty decent looking copy with clean cloth boards although a little sun faded at the top edge… and, especially so, on the spine.Also a little slitting along the outer hinge of the back board, nothing too severe but significant enough to be worthy of a mention in this description. A little toning to the page block edges and end papers. No inscriptions. No dust jacket. Terrific copy on the whole.

Air Commodore Sir Hughie Idwal Edwards, VC, KCMG, CB, DSO, OBE, DFC (1 August 1914 - 5 August 1982) was a senior officer in the Royal Air Force, Governor of Western Australia, and an Australian recipient of the Victoria Cross. Serving as a bomber pilot in the Royal Air Force, Edwards was decorated with the Victoria Cross in 1941 for his efforts in leading a bombing raid against the port of Bremen, one of the most heavily defended towns in Germany. He became the most highly decorated Australian serviceman of the Second World War.

Air Marshal Sir Denis Crowley-Milling, KCB, CBE, DSO, DFC & Bar, AE (22 March 1919 - 1 December 1996) was a Second World War fighter pilot and later an air officer in the Royal Air Force. | Air Commodore Sir Archibald Little Winskill, KCVO, CBE, DFC & Bar, AE (24 January 1917 - 9 August 2005) was a British Royal Air Force officer. He flew Spitfires in the Battle of Britain and evaded capture twice during the Second World War on two different continents.

This copy of Turncoat brings together two pilots and second world war heroes who both had remarkable escapes after being shot down. Air Commodore Sir Archibald Little Winskill and Air Marshal Sir Denis Crowley-Milling. This is Crowley-Milling's copy with his printed name and address in Fakenham to the front free end paper, the address is crossed out and his new address (Henley-on-Thames) written in, presumably, in his hand. Enclosed is a typed letter to Denis from Winskill who had borrowed the book from Crowley-Milling and SIGNED 'Archie'. He has also indicated on the letter the pages in the book relevant to his story, both men appear in the index. Also enclosed are two flown covers, each one SIGNED Sir 'Archibald Little Winskill' and Air Marshal Sir 'Denis Crowley-Milling', with information cards inside each. Dust wrapper supplied in archive acetate film protection. Housed in Fine condition marble paper covered open-fronted slip case. Member of the P.B.F.A. WORLD WAR II (Second).

(Ferguson 9978). James Graham Goodenough (1830-1875) joined the Royal Navy at the age of fourteen and earned the rank of Commander-in-Chief of the Australia Station in 1873. Goodenough served until 1875 when he passed on aboard the HMS Pearl from infected poison arrow wounds after an attack by Santa Cruz Islands natives.
