The Chess Player Series number 81. First edition. The Capablanca Memorial is a chess tournament that has been held annually in Cuba since 1962. The sixth edition drew 15 contenders which Ratmir Kholmov captured first with 12 of 14 points followed closely by Leonid Stein and Alexey Suetin half point behind for second and third. A distant fourth through sixth were Vladimir Antoshin, Mato Damjanovic and Dolfi Drimer each with eight. The tournament was held August 30th-September 20th. In the other contest Oscar Panno won clear first with a score of 9 of 11 points followed by Miguel Najdorf a half point behind. Condition: Corners bumped, light edge wear else very good.

The Chigorin Memorial is a chess tournament played in honor of Mikhail Chigorin (1850 1908), founder of the Soviet Chess School and one of the leading players of his day. The first and most important edition was the one played in 1909 in St. Petersburg. Later on, the tournament was mainly played in the Black Sea resort Sochi. The fourth Soci edition was won by Victor Korchnoi one half point ahead of second place finisher Lev Polugaevsky, who had one the first edition of the tournament in 1963. Third place was shared by Nikolai V Krogius and Milan Matulovic, a point behind. Fifth place was shared with Boris Spassky and Vladimir Sergeyevich Antoshin. Sixteen players contested for the first prize in this tournament. Condition, corners gently bumped, light edge wear else a very good copy.
