First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. 1st Edition. Not a book but a new, 12-inch, 33-1/3 rpm vinyl stereo jazz record album, Chaz Jazz Records CJ109, still sealed in its original shrink-wrap. The trio offer Thelonius Monk's "Blue Monk," "Please Don't Talk About Me When You're Gone," "Tiger Rag," "Sweet Georgia Brown," others. (With music by Sam Stept, lyrics by Sidney Clare, the familiar 1930 tune is usually rendered as "Please Don't Talk About Me When *I'M* Gone.") Hanratty's was (is?) located between 91st and 92nd streets on New York's Second Avenue, but gave up offering live music in 1986. ''We just couldn't make any money,'' Rod Albers, the room's general manager, explained to John S. Wilson of The New York Times the following month. ''For the past seven years we tried to approach the music from every angle. We tried old stars, new young musicians, lower prices, higher prices. But the restaurant was too small to support the music. Even when we packed the room, we couldn't generate enough volume to carry the expense.'' This is one of four jazz albums recorded by this label at Hanratty's in 1981. Reduced from $20.
