Original burgundy boards, with a caricature of an octopus strangling the world to the front cover, and death embracing the world to the rear panel. The book is in sound condition but with a little rubbing and marking to the covers. Very small area of loss to the top edge of the spine. With 32 large color plates, all using one or two colors besides black and white. The captions poke light fun at the Prussian, and German, military and militarism, as well as the common attitudes of the ranks and file at the time. Much of the humor is now somewhat obscure, which is part of its academic fascination.
