In 2012 the second conference took place, organised by the Ethnological Materials Laboratory in collaboration with the Ethnological Museum, divided into two study days devoted t…o the material "earth", and symbolically to the planet "Earth". This volume, available in Italian and English, is a collection of the Proceedings. The complex theme of the restoration and conservation of multi-material items is addressed through the various experiences faced by professionals and scholars of international renown, strengthening the intention of sharing reflections, results and solutions, but above all, of highlighting valuable cultural evidence. The themes include artistic expressions linked to earth, such as the Shipibo ceramics of Peruvian Amazonia and the Buddhist sculptures of central Asia, as well as Australian aboriginal artefacts; examples of earthen architectural complexes in Peru, Mexico and Benin; and problems related to the preservation of museum collections and the defence of cultural heritage. The book is extensively illustrated with photographs depicting works and constructions undergoing restoration and conservation work. The posters displayed in the Ethnological Museum during the conference are included in the appendix.
