Pratt, was originally intended to be a revision of F.N. Robinson's 2nd Edition of "The Works of Geoffrey Chaucer". It soon became clear, however, that the study of Chaucer had so greatly developed since Robinson completed his work that in fairness both to Robinson's memory & to Chaucer's readers a new edition was required. Texts had to be re-edited, the introductory materials completely rewritten, glosses added, and the Bibliography, Explanatory Notes, Textual Notes, Glossary, & Index of Proper Names all greatly expanded. Robinson's 2nd Edition remained the model. The texts generally retain his spellings, some of his notes are reprinted (marked "R.") & consistent aim was to preserve as much as possible the character & quality of Robinson's work. * SHIPPING: MNEMOSYNE carefully wraps, labels & custom-packages this fine book for FREE domestic shipment via USPS MEDIA MAIL (or USPS PRIORITY MAIL for a below-cost additional fee) & due to its weight via Mandatory USPS PRIORITY INTERNATIONAL AIRMAIL to all international destinations at our below cost rates quoted upon request.
