Rousseau was first scorned, then loved, for his "naivete". Having spent the first part of his adulthood in the army and as a minor customs official (whence the nickname "Le Douanier"), he became a "professional painter" at the age of 40. Although he became celebrated in avant-garde circles, he sold few works during his lifetime. Freitag 8440. Very good in a soiled dj.
