Bound in contemporary 3/4 leather over marbled boards. Modern leather spine label. Foxing throughout. Engraved by A. Testa, N. Guidetti, G. Mochetti, B. Consorti and I. Sarti, etc. Provenance: Armorial book plate of John Francis Basset. Later ownership of United States Ambassador and diplomat, Alexander Weddell (1876-1948). Refs: Quite rare. Not in Blackmer, but cf. 1591 (and footnote describing this first edition); not in Colas or Lipperheide. Stackelberg had travelled in Greece during the period 1810-1814, and was in Athens simultaneously with Byron. He excavated several archaeological sites, concentrating on Bassae.
