An original First World War archive of printed and duplicated typescript brigade orders issued by Headquarters, 123rd (Tyneside Scottish) Brigade, Newcastle-on-Tyne, during 1915, under the command of Brigadier-General Trevor Ternan, C.M.G., D.S.O. The photographed documents include orders dated from January to August 1915 and cover military administration, personnel appointments, billets, musketry, signalling, clothing, medical matters, horses, courts-martial, inoculation against enteric fever, pay and other aspects of the brigade's organisation and daily operation. Several printed orders carry the name of Captain T. L. B. Soutry, Brigade-Major. The sheets are retained loose in a contemporary cloth-covered portfolio bearing handwritten identification, including "York" and "20th North'd Fusiliers." Several documents contain contemporary stamps, annotations and corrections, adding to their archival interest. Condition is consistent with an extensively used working military archive. The portfolio is heavily marked, stained and worn, with fraying and damage to the fastening strap. The contents show age toning, spotting, creasing, edge wear, tears and occasional staining; some sheets have chipped or damaged margins. The binding is not secure and the papers are loose. The documents shown remain generally legible. The collection has not been fully collated and completeness cannot be guaranteed.
