In 1898 he returned to Newport, R.I. in the Spray, from the first ever single handed voyage around the world. Slocum disappeared at sea on a voyage from Vineyard Haven, Mass. to the West Indies in 1909. Edited by Slocum scholar, Walter Magnes Teller (d.1993). First published 1958.
