The editor was a native of the Soviet Union. He was education at the University of Leningrad and at Yale University, from which he received a Ph.D. in Russian History. He was also a research fellow at the Kennan Institute for Advanced Russian Studies. Dr. Tarasulo also served as the director of the Bethesda Institute for Soviet Studies, a nonpartisan research organization. More than any other book, Perils of Perestroika offers the reader a clear window onto events in the Soviet Union--from a first-hand perspective. The authors include not only journalists but also Boris Yeltsin and the poet Yevgeny Yevtushenko.
