William Heyer (illustrator). A crisp first edition (St. Martin's Press, 1962) of Cadet Command by Sidney Offit, with illustrations by William Heyer. The novel follows Stretch Warner, a young athlete at a military academy whose ambition to lead the basketball team tests his values of teamwork, discipline, and integrity, blending sports drama with coming-of-age themes typical of Offit's 1960s YA work. First Edition (early printing) Offit, a noted journalist and children's author (The Boy Who Won the World Series), draws on firsthand experience at Valley Forge Military Academy, giving the story an authentic tone. Bound in beige cloth; 192 pages. Dust jacket priced $3.50, not clipped. Condition: Book Fine, tight, clean, unmarked text block. Jacket Very Good?light rubbing to rear panel and a few small edge nicks, bright front illustration intact. Illustrated endpapers and jacket design by William Heyer. A handsome, collectible copy of a scarce early Offit title, appealing to collectors of vintage sports fiction or mid-century young adult literature.
