First edition. 4to; grey cloth, xxv, 241 pp, folding map of ancient Kashmir in front, eight plates in rear, dust jacket. The scarce first edition of this scholarly work on the political evolution of Kashmir and the attendant cultural, religious and social developments of the Kashmiri people culled mainly from archaeological and…literary sources. A second edition was issued in 1970. Cloth is faintly foxed, some dust-soiling and foxing to top edge; the unclipped dust jacket well-preserved condition except for a small chunk missing along the top edge of the front panel.
