After his victory over Mithradates VI the Roman general Pompey founded a number of cities in order to shape the newly founded Roman province in the inland of the conquered former Pontic kingdom, in the southern Black Sea region. Th…is sparked the beginning of an intense process of urban and rural development peaking in the 2nd century AD and continuing until the Byzantine period, a level of intensity never accomplished in northern Anatolia until today. The reorganization of space through the development of new urban centers affected the whole region and transformed the territory. This volume reviews current knowledge regarding these new founded Roman cities in relation to their territories, necropoleis and sanctuaries. It consists of 18 articles, which explore dynamics in settlement patterns, architecture, urban and mortuary spaces, monetary circulation and epigraphic habit. Some articles present the results of recent field research, others review little known material ripe for new interpretations, while new archaeological data is provided by the reports of rescue excavations carried out by local museums.

Chr. in der Nähe der alten persischen Residenzsstadt Kelainai (heute Dinar, Provinz Afyon) errichtete Tumulusgrab von Tatarli ist fur das Kulturerbe der Turkei von unschätzbarem Wert, da seine holzerne Grabkammer vollflächig mit qualitätvollen persisch beeinflussten Holzmalereien uberzogen war - eine heute fast gänzlich verlorene Kunstgattung. Das Grab wurde 1969 geplundert, die besterhaltenen Balken herausgesägt und ins Ausland geschafft. Die restlichen Holzbalken wurden ins Archäologische Museum von Afyon gebracht. Vor sechs Jahren wurden vier fehlende Balkenteile in einem Museum in Munchen (Deutschland) wiederentdeckt. Einmal der Nachweis der Zugehorigkeit dieser Stucke mit dem Tatarli-Grab erbracht, starteten Latife Summerer und Alexander von Kienlin, in enger Zusammenarbeit mit dem Ministerium fur Kultur und Tourismus der Republik Turkei, ein Projekt diese vor vierzig Jahren zerstorte Grabkammer so vollständig wie moglich wiederaufzubauen, und auf diese Weise sie fur kunftige Generationen zu bewahren. Mit der Restaurierung der großten aus der Antike erhaltenen Holzmalereien und der Ruckfuhrung aller bereits außer Landes gelangten Teile der Grabkammer ist dieses Projekt nicht nur fur die Wissenschaft ein unschätzbarer Gewinn, sondern leistet auch einen wesentlichen Beitrag zur Bewahrung der turkischen Kulturschätze. Mit Forderung der Agentur Istanbul 2010 Kulturhauptstadt Europas und des Auswärtigen Amtes der Bundesrepublik Deutschland wird diese einzigartige bemalte Holzgrabkammer mit ihren farbenfrohen Bildern von Krieg, Kult und Mythos restauriert und zum ersten Mal im Museum Vedat Nedim Tor des Kulturzentrums der Yapi Kredi zwischen dem 17. Juni und 26. September 2010 ausgestellt.

Aus dem Nachlass von Dr. Jutta Börker-Klähn (1942-2019), Privatdozentin für Altorientalistik an den Universitäten von Berlin, Würzburg und Hamburg. - Ein sehr gutes und sauberes Exemplar. - Aus dem Text: Das Museum von Samsun erwarb 1979 durch Ankauf einen Marmorkopf, der in Kara Samsun, im ant…iken Amisos, gefunden wurde (Abb. 14). Genaue Fundumstände sind nicht bekannt. Der etwa lebensgroße Frauenkopf mit Mauerkrone wurde wahrscheinlich schon in der Antike von einer Statue abgebrochen, wie die Verwitterungsspuren und die Abarbeitungen unter dem Hals vermuten lassen. Der Kopf ist insgesamt gesehen gut erhalten, wenn auch die Nasen-Mund-Kinnpartie stark beschädigt ist. Kleinere Bestoßungen zeigen sich auch am Hals. Bis auf wenige Verreibungen der Strähnenbüschel ist der Erhaltungszustand der Frisur vorzüglich. Ein kleines Stück fehlt der Mauerkrone auf der linken Seite. Das Gesicht der Büste, welche die Front der Mauerkrone schmückt, ist gänzlich zerstört. Sprache: Deutsch Gewicht in Gramm: 550 Sonderdruck, klammergeheftet in Papiereinband.
