Housed in the original bronze cloth clamshell case, spine with orange paper label lettered in gilt. A mint, as new example. Peter Suart (b. 1954) is one of Britain's most distinctive contemporary illustrators, celebrated for his highly imaginative, finely detailed drawings of fantastical creatures and anthropomorphic animals. Working in a tradition that blends the whimsical with the grotesque, Suart's art recalls elements of the eighteenth-century satirical imagination while remaining entirely original in conception. His work - often produced in limited editions and incorporating original prints - has attracted a strong following among collectors of modern illustrated books. In this edition, Suart's intricate and often darkly humorous imagery proves ideally suited to the satirical brilliance of Jonathan Swift, capturing both the absurdity and the underlying bite of Gulliver's Travels with remarkable invention. A striking and imaginative modern interpretation of Swift's enduring satire, elevated by the inclusion of an original signed etching and executed to the highest standards of contemporary bookmaking. Among the more desirable Folio Society limited editions of recent decades, particularly in such pristine condition.
