Dust jacket with front panel color foreground illustration of Tarzan and monkey atop a tree branch with Tarzan aiming an arrow diagonally downward; some toning and slight soiling as well as shallow chipping and tears at edges; 7cm tear ascending from heel of front flap fold; light moisture stains to spine with patch of surface peeling slightly affecting author lettering but with loss to small vignette Tarzan head illustration; short 1.2cm rippled triangular tear at lower spine; dj now presented in a mylar Brodart protector. Blue cloth decorated with orange stamping to spine and front board; slight bumping and scuffing at spine ends and board corners. Light toning to text block edges; small dark brown stain at lower fore-edge. Toning to endpapers; interior pages remain clean. Binding retains some crispness. A very good+ copy in a good+ dust jacket. Unpaged b/w frontispiece illustration and the color dj illustration are by the author's nephew Studley O. Burroughs. List of Burroughs novels on unpaged recto immediately opposite page 318. The novel was first published serially in Blue Book Magazine from October 1930 through April 1931. Desiring to capitalize further on his popular character, Edgar Rice Burroughs established his own publishing company and released this initial novel on November 20, 1931 albeit the fourteenth book in the perennially popular Tarzan series.
