It is profusely illustrated with black and white pictures and line drawings. The appendix is very valuable, supported by a simple bibliography. The book is divided into three parts, Part one concerns the cruiser Berwick then part two and three about life on the carriers Formidable and Indefatigable. The author explains his role and his action station on each vessel. He tells of who he meets and their role in the story. The book is historically important for two reasons, his ships were involved in the sinking of the war vessel Tirpitz and the demise of Japan in 1945. This book was written by a serving officer on HMS Indefatigable, the first to be attacked by a Japanese Kamikaze. Sakishima Gunto is a group of islands to the south west of Okinawa. During the invasion of Okinawa on the 1st April 1945, it was the task of the British Pacific Fleet to make and keep the the airstrips on the Sakishima Gunto inoperable. Like the Forgotten Army in Burma, Task Force 57 became known as the Forgotten Fleet. The British and Commonwealth sailors and Fleet Air Arm aicrews had already experienced a busy war in the Arctic, the Atlantic and the Mediterranean and the Indian Ocean. Now they fought the last battle alongside the Americans to secure "Peace in our time2. One man's story of these momentous events is greatley enhanced by the recollections of over fifty of his shipmates.
