Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. First edition, limited to 75 copies (this being number 66) bound in buckram and marble paper. Hardback in dustwrapper, also with acetate wrap with the Littlehampton crest in red. Top edge gilt. 22.5 × 15.5cm, 92pp. This copy signed to the limitation page by Osbert Lancaster and 'the Earl of Littlehampton'. The Littlehampton Bequest is Osbert Lancaster's witty and satirical work which is both a history of the fictional Littlehampton family, and an exercise in art pastiche. Although fictional, this book is framed as an official catalogue for a collection of family portraits bequeathed to the National Portrait Gallery by the 8th Earl of Littlehampton (in lieu of death duties). The gallery was unable to find the space to hang them so Lancaster was "commissioned" to produce this book. Along the way, Lancaster wittily captures the Littlehamptons as he imagines they would have been painted or drawn by Holbein, Van Dyck, Gainsborough, John Singer Sargent, and David Hockney etc, each portrait accompanied by a biographical sketch. Condition: This copy is in good sharp condition with a very little edgewear to the wrapper (which has been neatly price-clipped), and with some spotted foxing to the page edges and limitation page. Previous owner's bookplate to half-title. Otherwise, it remains in strong readable condition. Signed by Author(s).…

[48 pages.] 36 black and white photographs. English. 280x250mm. 0.35kg. Very good; light shelf wear, light rubbing to edges, slight creasing to top edge, small bump to base of spine. The catalogue for Beaton's ground-breaking show at the National Portrait Gallery in 1968. A huge list of 572 works were chosen to hang on the walls, representing Beaton's long photographic career. The exhibition was designed by Richard Buckle and curated by a young Roy Strong. It was the first retrospective of a living photographer in any British national museum, the first photographic exhibition to be held at the National Portrait Gallery and the first to including living sitters. Queues of visitors formed around the block waiting for their turn to see Beaton's portraits. The catalogue offers a glimpse and souvenir of the triumphant show. Softcover. Condition: g to vg. First edition. Quarto. Unpaginated. Original photo-illustrated dust-jacket over pink wrappers. Frontispiece portrait of Cecil Beaton. Cecil Beaton (1904-1980) is one of the most celebrated British portrait photographers of the 20th Century and is renowned for his images of elegance, glamour and style. His influence on portrait photography was profound and lives on today in the work of many contemporary photographers including David Bailey and Mario Testino. "Beaton Portraits" was published on the occasion of Sir Roy Strong's ground-breaking exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in 1968. This volume brings together 36 portraits from the five remarkable decades of Beaton's career, including iconic images as well as those never seen before.
