He was also a great lover of animals, particularly cats, and owned many during his life. This is a book containing memories and stories about his varied pets. Originally published in France as 'Menagerie Intime'. The illustrator and translator was Mrs William Chance - Lady Julia Chance, nee Strachey, a British artist and ardent supporter of women's suffrage.
