Blue boards; black lettering to front board and spine. Toning to endpapers; past owner's ink signature at top of front free endpaper; a few spots of minor soiling but interior leaves overall remain quite clean. Laid-in at front endpapers is an promotional sheet (undated but likely contemporary to the book) for a sales exhibit of Makonde sculpture held at The Gallery of African Art in Washington, DC. Binding is firm. Else a very good+ copy in a good+ dust jacket with the author's ink signature upon the title page. J. Anthony Stout (1933-1998) earned both bachelor's and master's degrees as well as completing some doctorial work all at Harvard with four years in Africa under the aegis of the Ford Foundation where he gained expertise in modern sculpture of the Makonde (as the ethnic group is called in Tanzania) or Maconde (in Mozambique) people. Stout was also a noted collector of English and American glass and a fellow of the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York.
