Allen, a Loyalist, advertised extensively, placing the same advertisement in all the newspapers published in Boston at that time, thus reaching the largest possible audience of potential customers despite the political leanings of any particular newspaper or its printer; the verso of the clipping is titled: Boston, June 14. Deaths and Characters. This manuscript was written by Jolley Allen in London, England during 1779 or 1780 giving an account of a part of his sufferings and losses in America. A tragic story of a Boston loyalist merchant who sold, among other things, some ot the tea that prompted the Boston Tea Party.
