Contact seller5-star sellerIn this two-page letter on United States Senate stationery, dated October 25, 1979, and signed by Adlai E. Stevenson, III, a stalwart of the Democratic Party and son of the two-time Democrat candidate for President of the United States expresses his disapproval of "illegal aliens living and working in this country" to Robert M.…Warren of Palos Hills, Illinois. It reads in part, "Thank you for telling me of your concern about illegal aliens living and working in this country. I share your concern. "The subject has been neglected for too long. In 1973, my proposal to make the knowing employment of illegal aliens unlawful was defeated. Now approximately six million illegal aliens are in the Unted States. Many are employed at the expense of American citizens. . . "Some form of limited amnesty is another necessary part of a comprehensive solution . . . for those who have been law-abiding, hard-working and now have families. As a practical matter, it would be impossible to deport them all. . . More must be done to seal the border, and most important, we must recognize that the problem can only be solved in Mexico. . . "I will continue to give the subject close attention. . ." . Today, Democratic Senator Adlai Stevenson's position is far more closely aligned with that of President Trump than the members of the current Democratic Party .
