Poet Neilson Abeel (1902 - 1949) was a graduate of Princeton, and a benefactor to the Princeton Library. The handsome portrait of Mr. Abeel, used as the frontispiece, was painted in 1925 by Edward Steese, who also compiled and edited the book. Beneath the portrait is a facsimile of Neilson Abeel's signature . The book includes a number of poems about Princeton. Mr. Steese, as well as being a poet and architect, is esteemed for his efforts to preserve historic architecture of New York City. On the front flyleaf is a gift inscription to "Mrs. Havens" signed by "Stachy Abeel". Stachy could have been a diminutive of Stacy or Stacie.
