This book is beautifully photographed and tries to explain the mysteries that make up the Shaker philosophy of diligence, unity in work and the perfection in simplicity. It is a biography of a group of people using their own words and their own histories. " Are you free as you are? Are you in any degree bound by your appetites, your passions, your self-will? Are you at all in bondage to the opinion of your neighbors and notions of society, however harmful or absurd? These do not trammel( impeded or deter) the true Shaker" Eldress Anna White, 1904 Book is in fine condition quarter bound in blue cloth over boards with gilt spine lettering. There is slight rubbing at the extremities. The priced (40.00) jacket is near fine with wear to the extremities. This is not only a beautiful book but a very iteresting read.
