Read more about : North Cayuga, Gypsum Mines, Gertrude Sheppard Culver, Mary Martindale's grandmother, discipline, inspectors, fairs, Maple Leaf, Sim's Lock, Clanbrassil, and Cook's Station. The earliest schools date to 1839 or so. Petch's Blackheath - circa 1900 - appears on the front cover. 108 pages. About half the schools are represented by a b/w photo - students, buildings, activities, teachers. INDEX of people at back. Green covers. Staples tight. Colours bright. No names nor marks. Collectible ! ! Quote (p. 37) : " Until 1853 or 1854, children in the Kohler area attended school at one of two log schools. One was situated on the Will Nablo farm, the other on a farm near Mount Olivet. At this point, a certan Mr. Findlay decided it would be a good idea to have a ._._._. ." Size: 12mo.
