Frederick Starr is a prominent American historian and academic specializing in Central Asian and Russian studies. He has authored or edited over 20 books and 200 articles on Russian and Eurasian affairs and has advised three presidents on Russia and Eurasia. He served as the provost of Tulane University and President of Oberlin College in the 1980s and 90s. During his time at Tulane, he collaborated with the school's dean of architecture, Ronald Filson, to purchase and restore threatened properties in the city. Besides He authored five books about the city, including this book and *Une Belle Maison: The Lombard Plantation House in New Orleans's Bywater*. The photographers, Robert and Jan Brantley, were a husband-and-wife photography team known for their architectural and interior design photography. Jan Brantley died December 19, 2008, at the age of 56. She was a nationally-acclaimed photographer. Despite her passing, the legacy of the Brantleys' work continues to be recognized and appreciated. The Brantleys' photography serves as a valuable record of architectural styles and details for future generations. Signed by Author(s).
