He has taken each of the 24 letters and as peg upon which to hang reflections and recollections of the amusing things which had happened in the previous fifty years. The then editor, H.V. Hodson judiciously sums up.

He is well known for his influential survey of the city"s poor in his three-volume "London Labour and the London Poor", of which this book derives information from regarding primarily street sellers. Rubinstein was a British solicitor, novelist and historian. With an introduction on the social and historical context of London life by M. Dorothy George. In the original cloth binding. Externally, very smart, with a few handling marks to the boards and mild discolouration to the spine. Minor shelf wear. Internally, firmly bound.
