The research presented in this book and associated papers by Minna et al. established several critical clinical protocols:Diagnostic Profile: They determined that three abnormal screening tests—prothrombin time, fibrinogen levels, and platelet count—are diagnostic of DIC.Skin Manifestations: A major prospective study included in their work found that cutaneous symptoms (like purpura and petechiae) heralded the onset of DIC in 33% of patients and eventually appeared in 88%.Treatment Protocols: The authors were early proponents of using heparin therapy for clinically significant DIC to decrease bleeding and normalize coagulation parameters.".
