Book I is inscribed and signed by the author, Matvii Stakhiv. These volumes…, part of a larger series, offer a comprehensive historical account of state formation, military strategies, and diplomatic efforts between 1918 and 1923. Matvii Stakhiv (also known as Matthew Stachiw), born on November 30, 1895, in Galicia, and passing on June 2, 1978, in San Diego, was a prominent lawyer, historian, and political figure. A Ukrainian Galician Army officer and Prague University law graduate, he became a key member of the Ukrainian Radical Party, serving as general secretary and editor of Hromads'kyi holos. During WWII, he lectured at the Ukrainian Free University in Germany and was part of the Ukrainian National Council. Emigrating to the U.S. in 1949, he edited Narodna Volia, led the Shevchenko Scientific Society, and held significant roles in Ukrainian American organizations. His influential works include "Zakhidnia Ukraïna," "Ukraïna v dobi Dyrektoriï UNR," and "Ukraine and Russia: An Outline of History of Political and Military Relations.".
