Edition of 800 copies of whch 400 were for sale. Cloth, gilt cover title and cover device, 8vo, 25 cm, 465 pp, ills. From the prospectus: "Published to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Plantin's death, this catalogue is the most important ever written on the great Antwerp printer, describing 513 printings issued fr…om 1555 to 1589 by the Officina Plantiniana. The collection includes 441 different editions, 69 duplicate copies and 3 reprints. The catalogue is presented in the same manner using the same codes, etc. as the The Plantin Press by Dr. Leon Voet, Honorary Director of the Plantin-Moretus Museum, who wrote the introduction to Labore and Constantia. In Plantin's everlasting fame, Claude Sorgeloos gives a short biography on Plantin and dwells into the world of book-lovers who have collected Plantinian editions ever since the XVIth Century up until today. The catalogue itself gives a full description of each edition, including the title, the collation, the illustration, the binding, the former owners, comments about the work and the author, as well as bibliographical references. It reproduces all the printer's marks used by Plantin and includes in the illustrations all the variants not described before and discovered in the collection, such as editions unknown to Dr. L. Voet and not recorded in the Moretus-Plantin Museum archives, 'ghost' editions coming to light, complete copies, editions with a type-composition reset or with a variant in the illustration. The precious gilt bindings are illustrated too as well as several original bindings made in Germany and others in Belgium, France, England, etc. Lastly, there is a table of concordance between The Plantin Press and Labore et Constantia, which is followed by four indexes, the first one giving the authors, anonymous titles, editors, translators, co-publishers and Printers, the second the owners, the third the designers and engravers, and the fourth the binders." Front board slightly curved and with a bruise, covers slightly rubbed and scuffed, contents Very Good.
