Red boards with black spine lettering; mild scuffing at spine ends; short slender scuffs along boards' bottom edges. Brown stains to text block edges with some leaves fractionally affected at margins; a few scattered foxing spots. Author's ink signature upon the half-title page. Binding is firm. A very good- copy in a very good- dust jacket. Uncommon murder mystery set in the Mississippi Delta region which was the second (and last) novel by Greenville, Mississippi author Louise Worthington Eskrigge Crump (1903-1968) who worked the city's Delta Democrat-Times newspaper from 1938 to 1965 and whose owner-publisher-editor, the Pulitzer Prize-winning Hodding Carter, was not only her mentor but the book dedicatee as well. Crump's preceding novel was "Helen Templeton's Daughter" published by Longmans, Green and Co. in 1952. {Lit Shelf #2}.

Boards have a small dent in the top edge of the front panel and a little corner bumping. Light browning to page edges with six small dark spots to the fore edges.…Quite heavy browning to the paste downs and lighter browning to front and rear endpapers. Previous owner's name to top corner of the front free endpaper. There is an odour to the book - probably from a smoker's home - but the pages otherwise clean and unmarked. Jacket has Light chipping at the top and bottom of the spine and and a little rubbing to the corners. Fading to the spine. Jacket design by David Soshensky.
