Hardcover. Condition: Good +. No Jacket. First Edition. In the speculative world of 1929, the Solloway-Mills company was buying and selling speculative stocks to the Canadian public. They had offices in major Canadian cities - Vancouver, Toronto and Calgary, inter alia. To cover the chance of a `run' on their positions, they SOL…D SHORT the very stocks they were buying. That is until Premier J.N. Brownlee got wind of it !! What followed was a major decision in Canadian law. This is Solloway's side of the discussion. It begins with general commentary on Canadian politics, government, financial risk etc. and ends with fraud trial details. In between is the specific business practice of the company that made it a VERY active brokerage. A few b/w photos illus. the text - e.g Toronto skyline 1933 opp. page 96. 223 total pages. Cond : Navy blue boards w/ gilt lettering on face and spine. Rubbed or worn - general. Worn also at top edge. Lightly foxed throughout. Binding decent, if lightly shaken. Front board bowed. Hardcover. Condition: Fair. No Dust Jacket. First Edition. Signed and inscribed by author upon blank leaf following copyright page. Several black and white photographic plates including portrait of author and, at page 107, an amazing 1929 scene of many dozens of fedora-wearing investors crammed into Solloway, Mills & Company's V…ancouver office engaged in what was surely frenetic stock trading. Mr. Solloway argues for a Canadian National Economic Council, a National Stock Exchange, and government control of large financial institutions. In the second part he uses his company, Solloway, Mills and its prosecutions to show that money used in Canadian investment and speculation creates Canadian employment, and that the mistakes of politicians can destroy industry, resulting in unemployment. 223 pages. One plate loose but present. Front free endpaper removed, resulting in the binding being open at that point. Above-average external wear. Binding brittle. No dust jacket. A worthy copy of this fascinating work.; 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall; Speculators and Politicians Solloway, I.W.C.
