ONE Magazine emerged from the Mattachine Society in the early 1950s. Founders included Dale Jennings, W. Dorr Legg, and Harry Hay, among others, who sought to unify homosexuals into social action. The magazine operated from 1953-1967, and was subject to a major obscenity lawsuit against the U.S. Post Office, which would make its way to the Supreme Court and uphold constitutional protection for pro-homosexual writing. A comprehensive archive of gay writing before Stonewall providing news, essays, fiction, and politics to a growing gay and lesbian readership.
