De titel De onmogelijkheid van de kunst verwijst treffend naar het werk van Bram van Velde en Samuel Beckett, twee kunstenaars die op geheel eigen wijze de grenzen en het wezen van kunst onderzochten. Bram van Velde, een Nederlandse schilder, brak met traditionele voorstelling en richtte zich op het abstracte en existentiële. Zijn werk toont een voortdurende worsteling met expressie, een zoektocht naar betekenis binnen de beperking van het beeldvlak. Zijn doeken stralen vaak een zekere melancholie en spaarzaamheid uit, waarmee hij de ambiguïteit en onzekerheid van het bestaan verbeeldt. Samuel Beckett, dichter, toneelschrijver en romanschrijver, verlegde de literaire grens met zijn minimalistische stijl en existentiële thematiek. In zijn werken staat de onmogelijkheid centraal: het ongrijpbare zoeken naar zin temidden van zinloosheid, het vastlopen van communicatie en handelen. Beckett liet zien dat kunst niet altijd een oplossing of duidelijke boodschap hoeft te bieden, maar juist in haar beperking de essentie kan raken. Beide kunstenaars reflecteren op de paradox van kunst: het verlangen tot uitdrukking en de onmogelijkheid daarvan tegelijk. Deze dialoog tussen beeld en woord, tussen abstractie en taal, blijft fascineren en beïnvloedt de ontwikkeling van de moderne en hedendaagse kunst en literatuur.
