Blue cloth covers with the Modern Library logo blind stamped on the front cover. Gold lettering and bands on the spine are bright. Covers exhibit light wear and bumping on corn…ers and spine ends. Very light shelf wear to the covers. Text and the full page map in the front of the book showing Sevastopol in 1855 are slightly yellowed due to age. Otherwise clean and unmarked. Hinges are tight. DJ is in a protective mylar cover with multiple chips and soiling on front edges and hinges. Small tears, creasing and soiling to upper and lower edges, spine ends and corners. Moderate shelf wear and soiling to covers and spine. Previous owners name on the upper edge of the inside front cover flap. This is a collection of all Tolstoy's short stories written between the ages of twenty-two to thirty-four, from 1851 to 1863 before he embarked on his first full length novel War and Peace. All books are individually examined and described. Never ex-lib unless stated.

A clean tight unmarked copy with a tiny "shadow" of… former (possibly price?) sticker to front free endpage and a small soiled spot to outter top page edge. Price clipped dust jacket with remains of tiny price sticker to front flap, some edgewear and tiny closed tears and touch of toning to rear panel and spine. Unusually uncommon.
