Alice MacRae Simkin, author of these poems, was born at Upper Canard, Nova Scotia and spent her childhood on an orchard farm at Grand Pre in the…Annapolis Valley. Uncomplicated, notably with pessimism, hers is in sharp contrast to much poetry of our time. Her earliest poem in this collection, In The Orchard, was written at age thirteen, her most recent, Mosaic, at sixty-nine. All are appealing in their simplicity and some are deeply moving.
