This image, a study of a pensive woman looking out over a London balcony, shows the craftsmanship which Augustus John admired in Rayner's work. The composition is a technical study of degrees of shadow and light as well as the differing textures of flesh, clothes, iron and cloud 13.5 x 10 cm.
