First edition, published in 1953, a semi autobiographical work where Corbett explores his compassion and curiosity offered by the jungles, how he learned to track animals, and later how he learned to outwit and outsmart some of the cunning man eating tigers and leopards. While still a teenager, he could identify hundreds of birds, plants, flowers and trees, He collected over 700 different species of birds for his cousin Stephen Dease who was then compiling a book about Birds of Kumaon. This book came from South Africa without dust wrapper with heavily sunned binding, but now protected with a facsimile dustjacket with additional mylar cover. Previous owner's name with address stamp from Natal on the title page, otherwise in very goodcondition. Warmly inscribed, signed and dated by Jim Corbett in blue ink under his portrait.
