Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Sigmund Abeles (illustrator). 1st Edition, Book Club Edition. This is a mint-condition copy of Maggie: A Girl of the Streets - A Tale of New York, by the American author Stephen Crane (1871-1900). It is a harrowing tale of a young girl surviving in the slums of New York and is Crane's most innovative work. It is known as a masterpiece of modern American prose. This copy was published by The Heritage Press, so it is of the best quality. 105 pages. It is very plain, with little exterior decoration. It is liberally illustrated by the American artist Sigmund Abeles. It comes in a hard slipcase which is structurally perfect but is significantly faded. Its original owner, a Canadian diplomat, signed the front endpaper. Other than that, the book does not appear to have been read and is in perfect condition.
