Contact seller5-star sellerSoft cover. Condition: As New. 1st Edition. As new condition glossy color photographic softcover wraps. Includes Author Dedication; Introduction; Author's Notes; and Contents of Sig II Ocean Survival Kit. Illustrated with a section of color photographic plates. Signed and inscribed by the author, George Sigler, with black pen on the full title page. "The story of two navy pilots who voluntarily crossed the Pacific Ocean testing survival equipment and the limits of their own endurance. Lietenants George Sigler and Charlie Gore left San Francisco in a rubber inflatable boat with absolutely no water and only six pounds of food to test survival concepts while crossing the Pacific Ocean. This is the story of two men who believed that they could save lives of future castaways if they took a scientific approach to the problems of survival at sea. Caught in a raging storm, their raft was carried vertically up the side of a rogue wave that towered above them. They were totally helpless as the wave broke, throwing their raft stern over bow. The pilots-turned-seamen found themselves in 59 degree water fighting for their lives. Unable to right their raft and on the verge of becoming hypothermic, they took the drastic step of deflating the raft in order to pull it upright. Days of boredom were punctuated by moments of sheer excitement as whales surrounded their raft, and a Great White shark too all too much interest in them. They fought off an attack by dorado which were determined to sink them by biting through the bottom of the raft." -- from the rear outer cover. Gullery, Jonathan (cover design) (illustrator). Add to basketCondition: Very Good. No Dustjacket as Issued. "Drawing on unconventional means of transformation, such as alchemy and magic, as a way to examine the metaphysical changes that occur when materials are used to conceptualize complex ideas, Now You See It--which includes work by Walead Beshty, Alexandra Bircken, Ceal Floyer, Tom Friedman, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Wade Guyton, Wolfgang Laib, Robert Morris, William O'Brien, Mitzi Pederson, Dieter Roth, Robert Ryman, Fred Sandback, Anna Sew Hoy, Gedi Sibony, Rudolf Stingel, Lawrence Weiner, Jennifer West and Erwin Wurm--proffers the notion that visual recognition alone is insufficient to determine an object's materiality. In this volume, published concurrently with an exhibition at the Aspen Art Museum, the question of materiality is recontextualized--through insightful essays by Aspen Art Museum Director Heidi Zuckerman Jacobson and Peter Eeley, Visual Arts Curator of the Walker Art Museum--as more than a mere struggle between content and form. Other contributions are by Paul Valéry and Jeremy Sigler.". …
