"She was the daughter of José Darío Argüello, the Spanish governor of Alta California and Presidio Commandante. She was born at the Presidio of San Francisco and at 15 she fell in love with Nikolai Rezanov, the visiting head of a Russian expedition to Alaska. His expedition had hard times in California and his involvement with Argüello was at first motivated by practical considerations, since the Spanish Crown did not permit giving aid to Russians. But the pair fell in love, and Rezanov returned to Russia to ask the Tsar for permission to marry Argüello. During his return trip across Siberia in 1807, he fell from his horse, became sick and died in Krasnoyarsk, where he is buried. " (from Wikipedia).…

The biography of Bostonian James F. Curtis, who came to San Francisco during the Gold Rush, became a fireman and a member of the first Committee of Vigilance in 1851. Thereafter, he became San Francisco's first Chief of Police, retiring in 1858. As a Major, he joined the volunteer campaign against the Paiutes in Nevada in 1860. In the Civil War, he served in various campaigns along the Pacific Coast, and was discharged as a Brigadier General in 1866. Thereafter, he was involved in Idaho railroads and was elected Idaho's Secretary of State in 1892. He returned to Boston in 1896, where he died in 1914 at the age of 88. An As New copy, now in a custom clear mylar protective jacket.…
