Leather. Condition: Fair. No Jacket. Unknown. .are so given that both natives and foreigners may acquire a just pronunciation. Including a contribution by The Rev. James Barclay. Pages lightly tanned, endpapers creased, chipped and inscribed upon (mostly in pencil) and with considerable damp damage, which does continue onto some of the printed pages. Some moderate but sparse foxing. Front gutter cracked and full-leather boards and spine are bumped to edges and very heavily rubbed all-over. However, the binding is firm and the text bright and readable. This is quite a heavy book and will incur a few extra pounds in p+p charges. Size: 4to.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Nice copy of the scarce 1835 edition - more in the nature of a general encyclopedia, including historical articles, geographical notes, census information etc., including changes in representation following the 1832 Reform Act. This copy has been nicely rebound at some time in its history, with the original spine leather laid down (beginning to come loose but an easy repair to put fresh adhesive down); marbled endpapers appear to be replacements but are attractive & sympathetic; green cloth tape reinforces the gutters & appears to have been part of the rebinding process (i.e. not new). The boards are very worn & it appears the original marbled papers on the outside are original. Slight toning to the text block but on the whole pleasingly clean; pp.960. Includes fifteen plates: Liverpool opposite title, also Antwerp, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Edinburgh Old Town, Dublin, Halifax, Flamborough Head, Collegiate Church Manchester, Plymouth Breakwater, Preston, Ripon, Waterford, Venice and York; the fifteenth plate is an engraving of Canova's statue, The Dancing Girls - some tissue guards have been lost, resulting in offsetting. Slight spotting to some of the plates but much cleaner than some I have seen from this period. Language: eng.
