Contact seller5-star sellerSoft cover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. PAGEANT MAGAZINE, March 1953, Vol. 8, No. 9, edited by Harris Shevelson, softcover, illustrated with photos and drawings, 1953. ITEM CONDITION: good. The text block and illustrations are in very good condition with no tears, dog-ears, or marks. There is no bookplate or name of a prior owner. This is not a library book nor a remainder. The wraps are in fairly good condition (edge chipping, upper lefthand corner worn). The word "Drug" is stamped on the front cover, probably indicating the location of the magazine rack in the store rather than a comment on the contents. 7 ½ x 5 ¼, 162 pages, 10 ounces. XX [From Wikipedia] "Pageant was founded and first published by Hillman Periodicals. The first issue appeared in November 1944. Publisher Alex L. Hillman saw Pageant as a prestigious addition to his magazine line that included true confessions (Real Romances, Real Story, Real Confessions), crime titles (Crime Detective, Real Detective, Crime Confessions) and comic books, and he went to press for a 500,000-print run on his first issue. With an emphasis on visuals, Pageant often mixed glamour photo features with informative text on a wide range of subjects." XX Contents of the March 1953 issue: "THOSE 20 DEMOCRATIC YEARS: At the dawn of a new regime, take a look at the thrilling parade of two dazzling decades—the 20 years you've just finished living; THREE STRANGE CASES: The human side of medicine, divulged by a famous brain surgeon; STITCHES TO RICHES: Leon Jolson, is living proof of America's own age of miracles; YOUR WIFE—MOTHER, FRIEND OR MISTRESS?; ALLEN'S SALLIES; PAGEANT VISITS ADLAI E. SINDLER; FASHIONS FOR GOING TO BED; WILDERNESS LIBRARY; PAGEANT COVER GIRL: STEPHANIE GRIFFIN; PAGEANT COMIC BOOK: AL CAPP'S AMERICA, Armed with a pencil, Lil Abner's father ribs some cherished institutions.".…
