Condition: Good. 2012 signed copy, Raven's Eye Press (Durango, Colorado), 6 x 9 inches tall trade paperback in color pictorial covers, illustrated with black-and-white photographs, 352 pp. Slight to moderate soiling, rubbing and edgewear to covers, with slight staining to page edges. Prior owner gift inscriptions to verso of front cover. Nicely signed by the author, Florence R. Krall Shepard, on the title page. Otherwise, a very good copy - clean, bright and unmarked. ~B~ [2.0P] A historical memoir that spans the twentieth century and recapitulates the life of a daughter of Italian immigrants who came to Wyoming to make a new life. From her cabin in the Hoback Basin, Florence Rose Krall Shepard retraces the contours of her long life through the lens of the seasons that call up memories. From the landscape of childhood on a sheep ranch during the Great Depression, through schooling in a one-room school to universities, marriages and motherhood, teaching and environmental activism, she pays tribute to her nurturing Italian parents and the wonders of the natural world. Challenges faced on her journey became divides from which she gained a new perspective. Florence Rose Krall Shepard is a Professor Emerita at the University of Utah. She was raised on a sheep ranch by Italian-American parents in Southwestern Wyoming and attended one-room and mining-camp schools. She went on to earn degrees in zoology, biology, and education and taught high school biology and environmental, educational, and feminist studies at the university. In 1985 she met and married Paul Shepard. Since his death in 1996, she has spent half of each year in their cabin in the Hoback Basin of Wyoming and winters in Salt Lake City. She is the proud matriarch of four children, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Her books include Sometimes Creek and Ecotone. Following Paul?s death, she edited and published his last books: Coming Home to the Pleistocene, Encounters with Nature, and Where We Belong.
