A Countryman Press book, this is one of a limited edition of 5000 copies printed in September 1945, first edition thus. 160 pages, illustrated by Arthur D. Fuller. Previous owner's name on title page, cartoon affixed inside rear board, otherwise very good condition.

In the pages of this book, you will find wit and whimsy, gladness tinctured by sadness, hints of magic and occasional elements of the tragic. Limited Edition. 1945, Limited Edition of 5000, Condition: Near Fine Dust Jackets: missing, Slip Case: Good, Tan cloth covered boards and text blocks of all 3 volumes are clean, unmarked and tightly bound. The edges in Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 are clean, but Vol. 3 has a smudge on the bottom edge. Appear unread. Volume 3 has a slight discolouration on the head of spine. All 3 volumes have slightly bumped spine tails, but no tearing or chips. Corners are square in Vol.1 and Vol. 2 and bumped in Vol. 3. Slip case is sturdy, but is faded, missing chips of green cloth, and has a 1 inch split in the joint of the rear panel. Contains stories of hunting and fishing in the countryside of Vermont.

Tranquillity Regained has lost its DJ. Slipcase, with pastedown title and explanation, as well as tiny bookseller's medallion, is soiled and worn at edges, but well-constructed.

Vol. 1 has 194 pages; tan colored cloth over boards with green text on the spine; shows shelf wear to head and tail of spine and upper board has a line mark near head of upper. Vol. 2 has 186 pages and is the same exterior without any damage. Vol. 3 has 160 pages and is similar to Vol. 2. In all volumes the interior pages are clean, unmarked and binding tight. The slip case shows edge wear and there are six places on the edges where a small piece of the cover paper is missing. The title plate on the outside has small soil marks but is all present. Inside the books there is a note that there were 5,000 copies of this book printed at that time.

The original mylar jacket has a half inch chip head of spine and abrasion or discoloration spots. Top edge of spine and tips of the foot of the spine lightly rubbed. The spine gilt printing is dulled. Plus the normal issues most of the Derrydale 1sts have. Scattered pages unopened and ghost tape marks to inside covers and endpapers.

The publisher used ordinary scotch tape to hold the acetate to the book, and the traces of this are barely evident on the edges of the endpapers. 130pp. The Derrydale Press [1927-1942] was the work of Eugene V. Connett, and was among the best sporting books publishers ever, with limited editions printed letterpress with fine illustrations. With seven tipped-in color plates, all present.
