Contemporary red-stained deer skin, gilt-stamped ornamental border on sides; spine with double gilt line border. An industrial memoir explaining and illustrating how to set up a Spanish wool factory with suitable machinery and instruments for producing narrow strips of fabrics, the cost of installation and its usefulness for the nation. The plates show the different stages of 18th century wool production, washing in hot water, rinsing, drying, carding, spinning onto bobbins, winding thread and making a skein, and the details of the machinery involved. One of the chapters is devoted to dyes. The author, a member of the Royal Patriotic Society of Seville, dedicates his work to Pedro López de Lerena (1734-1792), secretary of state and minister of finance and refers to wool as the most precious source of income for the kingdom calling for technical improvement of the backward home industries. He especially wishes to promote the industries of Seville to avoid importing expensive foreign machinery pointing out the benefit of washing wool for the textile industry. An excellent fresh copy in an attractive sheepskin binding of the period dyed in crimson red.
