The jacket shows rubbing and wear and has several edge tears and creases. Jacket spine ends are worn. The jacket is not price-clipped, but there is no price, indicating a possible book club edition. There is not dot or dimple on the rear cover, suggesting the book is NOT a book club edition. The copyright page states "A-9.56 [H]" indicating a first printing of a first edition, but with no price on the jacket, this can not be called a first edition. Text is sound and clean.…

Scribner's "A-9.56 [H]" code to Publishers page A being 1st printing/1st edition, toning/soiling to edges of text block with some light drip spotting to top edge - major loss of cloth covering along top/bottom edges of boards and top edge of spine (see my photos) - bottom corners of boards lightly bumped - 7/16" long x 1/8" wide loss of cloth covering to lower right of rear board - light foxing to front/rear end papers - former owners inked/dated gift inscription to front paste-down, dj now enclosed in mylar wrap shows edge wear, light toning/foxing/soiling with some scuffing to folds - chipping all along top edge with some chipping to bottom left edge of front panel - chipping all along top/bottom edges of rear panel with a few very small drip spots - 1" wide x 1/2" deep piece missing with chips to top edge and 2" wide x 11/4" deep (maximum) piece missing with further 3/4" tear to bottom edge of spine - chipping along top edges of front/rear flaps - chips to top/bottom of folds to flaps - original price intact.…
