Our first offering, "Landscape Design / A Practical Approach," is a large (7 X 9-1/2-inch) 8vo of 392 pp., with its original price of $35.50 rubber-stamped to the FFE, in a very good glossy color dust jacket. "From design analysis, study of land forms, and specialized business-landscaping analysis to environmental design and design of the landscape's hard elements -- this book covers the entire, rapidly growing field of landscape design, wirth the commercial designer/ salesperson especially in mind." "This book," author Hannebaum adds, "resulted from those frustrated attempts to secure a suitable text that was comprehensive enough for horticultural students yet detailed enough to make them awarer of the vast territory covered by the term 'landscape design,'" to include plantings designed to cool in the summer, allow the sun's warmth to heat in the winter, to block winds and control the drainage of surface water, while of course providing colors and fragrances for enjoyment. OUR SECOND OFFERING, a slightly smaller near-fine octavo of 374 pp., slightly soiled and bearing NO dust jacket, "Landscape for Living" is the 1972 Yearbook of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, photos mostly B&W but with a few introductory scenic photos in full color. The ISBN of "Harrington On Hold 'em Volume II," a 450-page, year 2007 trade paperback third printing also downgraded to "very good" (in this case due to spine creasing as well as some minimal yellow "Hi-Liting") is 1-880685-35-3. Two books on related topics combined into a "lot" to consolidate shipping charge.

Soft cover. Condition: As New. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Our first offering in this lot, "Drawing the Line," a trade paperback "First Edition -- 1995," deals with gerrymandering and continental drift, and offers a lengthy discussion of the controversy surrounding Yale's supposedly medieval "Vinland Map."' Symmetrical number line 3 5 7 9 10 8 6 4 2. The publishers contend they remove BOTH the numeral 1 and the "First Edition" statement from a second printing -- they're obviously wrong, and we conclude this is a first (trade paperback) printing. Geography. 368 pp. including Index. Reduced from $12. OUR SECOND OFFERING, here, is a "good" 1966 Yale University hardcover in a "good" dust jacket. "The Vinland Map and the Tartar Relation" states "Fourth printing April, 1966." (First was 1965.) A "good" quarto with a 5/8-inch rough spot to bottom corner of front board (possible kitten chew) in a "good" price-clipped dust jacket which is chipped to edges. Fold-out maps intact. Though they are later copies of much earlier originals, these maps (circa 1440) are cartographic evidence that distant lands -- including North America -- were known to at least some Europeans far earlier than imagined, the authors conclude. But controversy arose immediately upon publication of this effort -- issued essentially simultaneous with the announcement that alumnus Paul Mellon had purchased the map for a reported $300,000 for donation to the university -- and by 2019 specialists at Yale, where it is still held, declared that the latest scientific and historical research has established the "Vinland Map" to be a modern forgery. 291 pp. including index. The pair of books on related topics now reduced from $24.

"Billty the Kid," Bantam Giant A1246, the 1954 first Bantam printing of a book originally published in hardcover by Little Brown in 1953, is "good only" with a diagonal crease near top of front wrap and a half-inch dampstain to bottom outside page edges. "Gut Shot," 1962 Ballantine original 578, is "very good" with a rolled spine. "Short Cut to Red River," "complete and unabridged," is Avon T-382, 1958, showing two reading creases. Seller: Cat's Curiosities, Pahrump, NV, U.S.A.
Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. No Jacket. "Hell in His Holsters" is an as-new, unread mass-market paperback Western (but with minor creasing to bottom outside corners), Signet 1108, originally priced 25 cents. States "First Printing" (as a mass-market paperback), October, 1954." (The hardback original was from Doubleday.) "Haunted by his bloodsoaked past, an ex-outlaw battles to clear his name in the smoldering saga of tension and violence in the untamed West!" Fine cover painting (though we're not sure any of those single-action revolvers will actually fire till they're cocked) is neither signed nor credited; could be Bob Stanley; totals 152 pp. Our second offering, "Trouble Town," Signet 866, states "First printing April, 1951," but that likely means "first thus" as a mass-market paperback -- the hardcover first was from Doubleday the year before. Pages moderately age-toned. Our third offering, "Lobo Gray," Signet S2216, originally priced 35 cents, states "First Printing, December, 1962," and may indeed be a true paperback first. Each book appears unread but shows a faint vertical reading crease to front wrap near the spine. Three Signet mass-market paperback Westerns consolidated into one lot to consolidate shipping charge. Page counts total 152, 142 and 127 pp., respectively. The three Signet paperback Westerns now reduced from $22.
