The cover of this 261 page volume was done by Odjig, while the internal illustration is by Don LaForte. Read more about : Joe Keeper, Oxford House, Treaty Six, Province of Upper Canada, residential schools, Proto Algonquian, Kinistenoag, and Jim Wemigwams. The book was put together as an aid to teachers to cover a broader aspect of Canadian history than was common. The book is written form the point-of-view of non-whites. Cond : Paper wrapper is off-white with black lettering. Front title presented in Cree syllabics (sree page 80). Cover design is a sttilized teepee crammed full of styilized First Nations people. Plenty of edge wear, soft corners. Binding sound. P/O has left a note on the half-title that makes me think of a jail term. Cover rubbed. Occasional marks in text block. Minimal soiling. Still a VG working copy ! ! Quote (p. 133) : " ._._. an attempt was made to have Joe admit to having stolen the radio. Because of Joe's embarassment, he did not tell his story to others until days later. Was he arrested because he was an Indian? We don't know, but we wonder how many white teenagers are arrested for publicly playing a transistor radio. And we know that Indian parents ._._._. ." Size: 8vo.
