Published by very good, cloth bound Scull was born in Philadelphia in 1846. He traveled to San Francisco, North Carolina, and several times to Britain as a companion to Rufus King. "At Uxbridge he stops to buy a razor, but not without a long conversation with the cutler and his wife mainly on temperance." He was instrumental in raising money for a Home for Young Men at Friendsville and for obtaining a property at Maryville for a Normal White School. He died in 1884 "leaving behind him the fragrance of a life so full and so fruitful that it seems scarcely possible it could have been of so short a span." b, 1890
